Automatic color modification for web page based on partitional color transfer

Published in International Conference on Software Reuse, 2015

Designing or modifying the color of a website is a time-consuming and difficult task for most software engineers. The idea of this paper is inspired by the color transfer methods proposed for automatically alter an image’s color during image processing. The color of a web page can be modified by reusing color characteristic of a reference page. However, a web page cannot be simply viewed as an image because it has structure and constraints for color modifying. In this paper, we propose an approach for automatic color modification of web page based on partitional color transfer. Our approach starts from the clustering of visible UI elements for page partition. And then, elements in the source page are color transferred with their matched elements in the reference page. Our approach automatically modifies the color of web pages based on the color transfer result. We generate 72 modified web pages to evaluate the page structure preserving and color characteristic transformation result of our approach.

Automaticly Generating Web Page From A Mockup.

Published in SEKE, 2016

UI is an important part of software product. Considering the complexity of web UI, generating the web page from a mockup proposes requirements for rich experience of developer. Extracting visible elements and their relationship, selecting proper tags, generating source code are time-consuming and error-prone task. In this paper, we propose a method to automate the transforming of the mockup to the web page. Our approach starts from the mockup designed by the art designers, and extracts the elements based on the color features of the edges. Then a bottom-up tag generating method based on the Random Forest is proposed to select the tags for elements. Finally the web page is generated by the definition of the elements. The generating tags can achieve an average accuracy of more than 84%, which can meet the basic requirements of the developers.

Online Educational Resources Classification Using Visual Features

Published in 2018 7th International Conference on Digital Home (ICDH), 2018

With the promotion of the Internet, people can easily retrieve various kinds of education resources on the web. However, current education resources sharing platforms do not support the resources retrieval through the visual information. Therefore, we need to classify the resources which are related to visual characteristics into several categories. In this paper, we propose a novel classification method for resources on Netpad[ http://www.netpad.net.cn/]. We extract the important visual features including graphics features and text features. Then, we use the random forest algorithm to train a valuable model. The results of the experiments indicate that, using graphics features and text features, most of the data are classified correctly, which means that our proposed method can solve the classification problem of Netpad effectively.

AutoWPR: An Automatic Web Page Recoloring Method

Published in International Journal of Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering, 2020

The color design is one of the important parts of GUI development. To gain an attractive color scheme, designers often seek inspiration from examples. However, transferring an example’s colors to a target web page is time-consuming and tedious. In this paper, we propose a method named AutoWPR to reuse the example web page’s colors for recoloring a web page. To preserve the semantic relations of web elements, we propose a clustering algorithm to group the related elements into a cluster. In order to make the recoloring result have similar color distributions to the example, we use the Random–Forest regression to learn human’s mappings and propose a top-down matching algorithm to generate a mapping between two web pages’ clusters. Then AutoWPR recolors the element with the matching element’s colors. We designed several experiments to evaluate the correctness of the clustering and matching algorithm. We also conducted some qualitative and quantitative experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of our results in helping recoloring. The results show that our method can generate a human-like recoloring result and help novice developers reuse the reference web page’s colors conveniently.

Robotic Systems in Heritage Protection: An Anti-Fatigue Human-Robot Collaboration Exploration for Heritage Painting and Calligraphy Restoration

Published in Conference/Journal, 2023

The heritage restoration of paintings and calligraphy is a labour-intensive process, characterised by repetitive, low-intensity, and high-precision. Two core steps, “lift up the previous” and “fix and maintain”, can lead to muscle fatigue in the upper limbs. In this paper, we develop a human-in-the-loop based human-robot collaboration system that provides real-time force feedback to restorers based on their muscle load and motion intention, with the support strength changing to relieve fatigue. Different robot-aided positions on human arm are explored and a two-point elbow-supporting mechanism is evaluated as the optimal solution. Moreover, a novel muscle load calculation model is developed to integrate human factors into the HRC system with electromyography. The results of a usability experiment show the effectiveness of the proposed method in addressing the current anti-fatigue challenge in heritage paintings and calligraphy restoration.
